Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc
Every year a little over 2000 people gathers in Chamonix, France to race around the highest mountain in western Europe.
With a running distance of about 160km and a vertical gain of almost 9000m the Ultra-Trail du Mont Blanc is considered one of the toughest races in the world. The hiking trail, Tour du Mont Blanc, on which the event takes place crosses three countries and the circuit is usually completed in seven to ten days by hikers. The winner finishes the lap in about 21 hours but the vast majority of the racers needs far more time than that to close the anti-clockwise circle from Chamonix to Chamonix.
